Science at Deanmore is fun, engaging and full of investigation. Science is part of our every day lives and the more answers we find, the more questions we create. Our program seeks to build on students’ natural curiosity, nurture their sense of wonder and develop a passion for science that they can take into their high school years. Students from Kindy – Year 6 explore the four strands of Science Understanding – Biological, Physical, Earth and Space and Chemical – and develop their Science Inquiry Skills by undertaking exciting investigations that build on their prior knowledge. Students are offered extension activities such as Tournament of Minds and the Synergy Schools Solar Challenge to expand on their science and critical and creative thinking processes, preparing them to become 21st Century learners.
“TO LEARN A LANGUAGE IS TO HAVE ONE MORE WINDOW FROM WHICH TO LOOK AT THE WORLD.” – CHINESE PROVERB
At Deanmore Primary School, our students learn Mandarin from Year 2 to Year 6. The Chinese Language program focuses on learning to communicate using essential Mandarin and extending students’ understanding of Chinese culture. Throughout the year, topics across the curriculum are integrated into the Chinese program to provide more meaning and a real-life focus to the language study. Students are also given the opportunity to participate in various culturally significant events.
The area of Design continues to grow into an important and integral part of the curriculum. The Deanmore approach allows the students to create solutions by: • investigating • designing • producing and implementing • evaluating • collaborating and managing.
The children develop the confidence to create projects in a team based environment. This supportive setting builds their resilience to setbacks through cooperative trial and error.
The use of equipment and constantly changing consumables allows the students to design and create interesting projects following the design process.
